A suspect has not been identified
RIO RANCHO — The Rio Rancho Police Department has not identified a suspect in a March 11 shooting.
According to police narratives released to the Observer March 17, the suspect is unknown at this time, but five unidentified people were detained in relation to the incident.
The victim, identified as a 19-year-old from Rio Rancho, sustained three gunshot wounds to the upper left shoulder at Clayton Meadows Park in Northern Meadows, the narratives state.
When police got to the scene, an off-duty Bernalillo County Sheriff Deputy was providing medical aid to the teen, who had been shot while he was sitting in his car, according to the narratives.
Because the victim was in and out of consciousness, police could only get answers with a nod or shake of the head from the victim, according to the documents. He indicated that he didn’t know how many people were part of the incident nor who they were. He also indicated he saw a silver Dodge Charger when it happened, which is what witnesses saw.
The BCSO deputy told police his wife got a notification on her phone that gunshots were heard. he patrolled the area to check if everything was OK and fond the victim at the park. He said he didn’t see any suspects and started rendering aid until EMS arrived.
EMS found a driver’s license on the ground at the scene, and the person on the ID has been identified as a person of interest, the narratives indicate.
Crime scene technicians note that the path of the bullet showed it was fired from above the door handle of the victim’s car. They also helped with a silver Dodge Charger that police pulled over in Albuquerque that day. They collected a number of items, including a 10 millimeter Glock 29, a HiLight Gun Light, a rifle modification and a gun magazine, the narratives state.
Later, they also helped collect evidence from a residence in Albuquerque, including a 9 millimeter Taurus, bullets and a magazine for a 9 millimeter Glock.
Six unidentified people were detained there by SWAT, though the narratives states none of them had a warrant out for an arrest. It was not made clear if their detention was for the shooting.
