New cheer gym in Rio Rancho officially opens

Rio Rancho, New Mexico- Chaos Athletics officially opened their doors March 15, and held a grand opening at their new facility in Rio Rancho. 

“The fun part right now is getting our name out there, and really showing the community what we are all about,”  Isabella Tinsley said, who is a coach and the social media manager at Chaos Athletics. Tinsley also competed for the Bernalillo Spartans cheer squad, and graduated in 2024.

Chaos Athletics is a new All-Star cheer club that offers classes, open gym, competitive cheer, and has built a gym designed for all things cheer. 

The grand opening consisted of some food trucks, music, a vendor pop-up market with a ton of small businesses participating, backdrops for photos, and a visit from ESPN 101.7 The Team. 

“High school, all-star, competitive, recreational, whatever your experience is, we just want to make one big, supportive community,” Tinsley said. 

You could also spot some familiar faces on the mats including Cleveland varsity cheerleaders Jennica Montejano and Lilly Armijo.  

“Coach Cassi, the owner,  she’s been my coach since first grade. Really, she’s been my coach my entire life,” Armijo said.  “She’s always shown me so much support, and always helped me reach my goals.”

Armijo  is a freshman flyer for the Storm squad, and is an “ambassador” for Chaos Athletics. 

The co-owners at Chaos Athletics are Cassi Chavez and Bianca Ivans. They also have 20 coaches rostered, two of which are current UNM Lobo cheerleaders: Bailey Santillanes and Angelique Garcia.
