Man arrested for battering SRMC nurses, police officer
RIO RANCHO — A man has been arrested for allegedly attacking nurses and a police officer at Sandoval Regional Medical Center.
Bryan Carrillo, 28, of Albuquerque, was arrested for aggravated battery upon a health care worker, attempted aggravated battery upon a health care worker, battery upon a peace officer, attempted disarming a peace officer and resisting arrest at SRMC.
A criminal complaint states police went to the hospital for a call alleging one of the patients — later identified as Cafrillo — struck an officer in the face in the emergency room.
The officer said he was at the hospital in response to Carfillo allegedly choking medical staff and needing to be restrained, according to the complaint. When he got to the hospital, Carrillo was sedated and removed from restraints so he could use the bathroom. The officer noted that Carrillo got aggressive again, this time with the officer.
Attempting to subdue Carrillo, the officer tried to bring him to the ground. Carrillo then allegedly hit the officer in the face with a closed fist and tried to stab a nurse with a pen. The complaint adds that Carrillo tried to disarm the officer of their Taser and firearm.
The officer and staff eventually restrained Carrillo to a gurney.
Carrillo could face six years in prison if he is convicted.
