RIO RANCHO - “There were ups and downs, but every experience helped me grow as a player and as a person, and it all led me to this opportunity.”

Riding the rollercoaster that is a young baseball career has taken Cleveland High School pitcher Alex Larvie through some loops and turns, but now, his next ride is set for Glendale, Arizona.

Earlier this month, Larvie announced his commitment to Glendale Community College to continue his baseball career with the Gauchos in the NJCAA.

“None of this would have been possible without my mom and dad and all the hard work and sacrifices they’ve made for me along the way,” Larvie said. “From early mornings to constant support, I’m incredibly grateful for everything they’ve done.”

It has been a journey all over the map for Larvie, and not just on the baseball field. Through Florida to Colorado to New Mexico, all the hard work through the changes and through the years makes a commitment like this that much more rewarding.

“Making this commitment makes all the long practices, early mornings, and sacrifices worth it,” Larvie said. “It’s a great feeling knowing the work paid off, but it also motivates me even more because I know this is just the next step.”

A part of that hard work included a variable that many young ballplayers deal with: visibility. Getting the word out there to schools can be just as hard as performing on the field, often being a game of patience.

“The recruiting process was definitely challenging,” Larvie said. “It took a lot of patience and effort, sending emails, going to showcases, and staying consistent even when things didn’t happen right away. There were moments where it felt stressful, but it also taught me how to communicate, stay motivated, and trust the process. Having my parents supporting me through every step made a huge difference and kept me focused.”

Sometimes all it takes is one opportunity, and thanks to some local help, Larvie got that chance with Glendale.

“Jim Dixon at Next Level Albuquerque played a big role in the process by helping get me in front of the Glendale coaching staff, and I’m really grateful for that opportunity,” Larvie said. “Once everything came together, it just felt like the right place for me to continue developing and competing at the next level.”

So while making the jump to the collegiate level can be daunting, taking a page out of Larvie’s book: stay committed, and the rest will follow.

“Stay consistent and don't get discouraged. Control what you can—your work ethic, attitude, and effort,” Larvie said. “Don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s because everyone’s path is different. If you truly love the game and stay committed, opportunities will come.”
