RIO RANCHO — The usual? Cleveland took home another wrestling state trophy this past weekend. The unexpected? It was a clean sweep.

Another chapter in the Storm’s book of wrestling history came to a storybook conclusion at the Rio Rancho Events Center, when the program took home the state titles in both the boys and girls divisions.

Eight different Storm wrestlers across both fields became individual state champions, headlined by senior Roman Luttrell’s fifth state title, only the second athlete to ever accomplish the feat in 5A.

His Hall-Of-Fame caliber high school career comes to a close, looking to make some more headlines as he heads to Utah Valley and beyond.

"The fifth state title was inevitable," Luttrell said. "I am more proud about how not only my twin brother did but the whole team; we had 11 finalists, which was pretty special. We also broke the 5A record for most team points scored ever. I am very excited that I got to end my career like that."

Luttrell's triumph in the 120-division was accompanied by championship wins by Ricardo Poolaw (113), Roman’s twin Reagan Luttrell (165) and Riley Haussler (285).

For the girls, Eloise Woolsey (155) and Heaven Guevara (135) both added to their illustrious resumes with state titles, as Woolsey won her fourth state title and Guevara her third.

Kaydence O’Neil-Dreher and Miranda Stewart-Hess Jr. joined them as state winners in the 100 and 120 divisions to round out the Storm’s fantastic four.

Outside of the trophy winners, there was a laundry list of accomplishments for Cleveland in the winning weekend.

Cleveland’s Roman Luttrell reacts to the crowd after defeating Volcano Vista’s Elias Martinez in the 5A boys 120-pound match during the 2026 State Wrestling Championships at the Rio Rancho Events Center in Rio Rancho, N.M., on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026.

“This year, the (girls’) team set the record for most finalists and most state champions,” Cleveland Wrestling posted online. “Having an incredible day two of the tournament, and breaking the program's previous scoring record by 21 points.”

The boys' side was throwing the record books as well, finishing with a 5A state-record 14 state placers in the top four, along with the record 11 finalists and 317 team points.

Cleveland’s historic weekend allowed the girls to repeat as state champions for the third straight year, while the boys knocked off Volcano Vista’s current three-peat by taking the crown.

“We couldn’t be more proud of how our guys showed up and competed this weekend,” Cleveland Wrestling posted. “They earned this Team State Championship one match at a time, displaying class, composure, and toughness every step of the way.

“It was a great weekend to be a Storm.”
