Karissa Culbreath
I am Karissa Culbreath, and I have proudly served as your City Councilor for District 5 since 2020. My family and I have called Rio Rancho home for more than 13 years, and we love this community. I am running for re-election because, like you, I am excited about where our city is headed, and I know there is still important work ahead. Here are just a few of the results we have delivered together and my vision for the future.
Rio Rancho is the safest community in New Mexico, and that is no accident. It is the result of the dedicated work of our police and fire departments. I am proud to be endorsed by both the police and fire unions because I have consistently advocated for the tools and resources our first responders need to do their jobs. I am excited that Fire Station 8 will be breaking ground soon. As our city continues to grow, I will ensure publicsafety remains a top priority.
When I speak with residents, roads are consistently one of the top concerns. That is why I worked closely with city staff to expand our neighborhood street repair program. With my strong support, we developed the HMI program, resulting in the reconstruction of some of our oldest roads in Unit 16 and Corrales Heights, including May Circle, 23rd Avenue, and Jackie Road. Since I took office in 2020, more than 80 roads in District 5 have been repaired or reconstructed. I will continue advocating for strategic, forward- thinking investments in roads and infrastructure to keep Rio Rancho strong for decades to come.
I hear our community clearly: We need more recreational spaces and opportunities for families, seniors and youth. I supported the expansion of the Broadmoor Senior Center and Campus Park, as well as playground improvements across the city. One of my goals in the next four years will be to see the city break ground on a state-of-the-art, multi-generational community center. I look forward to bringing this vision to life.
Rio Rancho is no longer just a bedroom community; we are a thriving economic center. Supporting small businesses and helping them succeed has been one of the most rewarding parts of serving on the council. We must also continue recruiting employers and retailers that create more jobs and opportunity for our residents. My focus is ensuring thoughtful, balanced development while preserving the character and quality of our neighborhoods.
I am committed to keep Rio Rancho a great place to live and work. I would be honored to continue serving you as your District 5 City Councilor and to keep building a safe, vibrant, and forward-looking future for our city.
