I’m Paul Wymer, running for Rio Rancho mayor. I care deeply about our city, where I’ve raised my family and called home since 1983. I’m proud of my representation as District 4 Councilor and look forward to using that experience to serve our entire city.

Our city retains its strengths through proven leadership, partnerships and collaboration. I bring that leadership to you. Drama and divisiveness will only erode Rio Rancho’s greatest attributes.

I’m proud to be serving as District 4 City Councilor for six years. Additionally, I served six years as an appointed volunteer on the City’s Planning and Zoning Board. Each demonstrates my record of public service, knowledge, and experience of local city government. I’m a licensed architect and certified planner with over 40 years of planning and development experience.

I’m uniquely qualified to lead Rio Rancho and commit to keep Rio Rancho business-friendly. Working alongside business development entities like Sandoval Economic Alliance, Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce, and the city’s Economic Development manager, I’ll ensure we work to recruit new business while also assisting existing businesses to grow and prosper.

As City Councilor, I’ve supported higher levels of funding for public safety resulting in annual pay increases for police, firefighters and dispatchers. I’ve supported hiring new officers, purchasing new equipment, vehicles and a new fire station coming this year. Because of these investments, which I’ll continue to support as mayor, Rio Rancho has a fire services rating in the top 4% nationwide. Additionally, Rio Rancho has the lowest crime rate in New Mexico, based on population.

As City Councilor, I’ve advocated for more maintenance and expanded programs to improve roadways, resulting in over 183 miles of neighborhood street improvements. As mayor, I’ll ensure the remaining needs are addressed through a planned approach.

With water being so critical, I supported a major upgrade to the city’s water treatment facility. As mayor, I’ll support expanding the city’s water re-injection system to replenish groundwater resources.

Rio Rancho has expanded its recreational and quality-of-life offerings through a new senior center, library, recreational center and Campus Park. The city is currently planning a first-of-its-kind, multigenerational center. Bringing this project forward will be a priority for me as mayor.

My experience as District 4 Councilor has resulted in endorsements that highlight my commitment to our city, including Mayor Gregg Hull, the city’s Firefighter and Police/Dispatchers unions, City Councilors Jeremy Lenentine and Bob Tyler, and former Police Captain and Undersheriff Weise.

As mayor I’ll work tirelessly to ensure Rio Rancho remains a nationally recognized best place to live, work, raise a family, and retire. My promise to you is that the pride we feel in our community will not diminish, but instead, grow.
