A Rio Rancho man has been sentenced for criminal rape of a minor after pleading guilty in February.
Tyrell Begay, 28, of Rio Rancho, was initially arrested for six counts of criminal sexual penetration and one count of criminal sexual contact.
After pleading guilty to just two counts of criminal sexual penetration in the second degree, Begay was sentenced to 18 years in a corrections facility with 13 years suspended. He will also be on an intermediate period of five to 20 years of supervised probation for each count. Then he will be on sex offender parole anywhere from five years to life. Lastly, he will be required to register as a sex offender.
According to court documents, Begay caused serious physical and psychological harm to his victim.
