RR homicide investigation continues, victim identified
Rio Rancho Police Department unit blocks Aspen Meadows for a homicide investigation Sunday, July 27.
Update July 31: Rio Rancho Police Department's Captain Jacquelynn Reedy Identified 22 year-old Maurice Chavez as the decedent in the July 27 homicide. There was also a juvenile struck with the gunfire who sustained a non-life threatening injury. The investigation is ongoing, according to Reedy.
Update July 28 8:30 a.m.: RRPD confirmed multiple interviews have been conducted, however no charges have been filed. The investigation is still ongoing.
RIO RANCHO — The Rio Rancho Police Department is investigating a homicide in the 1300 block of Aspen Meadows.
When responding to reports of a disturbance around 5 a.m. Sunday, police found the body of a male, and another person was brought to the hospital. Their condition remains unknown, according to a Facebook post from RRPD.
The post also notes that multiple people have been taken into custody for questioning and that there is "no active threat to the public."
The investigation is ongoing, and those with information on the incident should contact RRPD at 505-891-7226.
