CORRALES — The principal of Corrales K-8  has resigned following an internal investigation, and now the state is pursuing a complaint filed against him by Albuquerque Public Schools.

Alvaro Ramazzini stepped down from his position March 19 after being placed on administrative leave in early February as an internal investigation began, spokesperson Martin Salazar wrote in an email Thursday.

Salazar provided a copy of an APS letter sent to school families confirming Ramazzini had resigned, adding, “We appreciate the contributions he made to the Corrales K-8 community during his time at the school and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Meanwhile, PED spokesperson Janelle Garcia said in an interview that her agency received a complaint from APS against Ramazzini on Feb. 19.

“Any and every complaint we receive is taken seriously,” Garcia said.

She could not discuss specifics of the investigation but said a copy of the complaint could be obtained through a public records request.

APS will begin a search for a permanent replacement for Ramazzini, who took the reins of Corrales K-8 in July, after the school fully expanded grade levels and opened a new wing. Ramazzini was hired by APS in October 2023.

With Ramazzini out, Craig Robinson, assistant principal of Eldorado High School in Albuquerque, will serve as on-site administrator at Corrales K-8 for the remainder of the school year, the APS letter to families stated. Casey Reid Kadlec will continue to serve as interim principal.
