A man is in critical condition from a gunshot wound to the head as police investigate the incident.

The Rio Rancho Police Department confirmed at about 7 p.m. Oct. 30 that a man was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound to the head at about 4 p.m. that evening after an incident near Rainbow Dog Park.

RRPD's Capt. Jacquelynn Reedy said officers responded to a report of shots being fired near Inca Road and Second Street at 4:10 p.m. and "began rendering aid to an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The male was transported to an area hospital for trauma care."

The scene is active at this time. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Rio Rancho Police immediately.

This is at least the second incident involving gunshots in recent days. Reedy also confirmed on Wednesday that shots were fired at a weekend Halloween party involving juveniles. That incident also remains under investigation.
