Locals vying for statewide, federal offices file candidacy paperwork

Candidates include Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull for governor and pharmacist Ndidiamaka Okpareke for U.S. Congress

SANTA FE — Sandoval County office-seekers submitted their paperwork for statewide and federal positions Tuesday to meet the filing deadline set by the New Mexico Secretary of State's Office.

A handful for Rio Rancho residents vying for governor, a seat in the U.S. Congress or Senate, as well as state treasurer and secretary of state made their declarations ahead of the Feb. 3 filing deadline set by Maggie Toulouse Oliver, who is running for lieutenant governor. The candidates' applications are pending approval from Toulouse Oliver's office.

The following are the list of candidates for races that include a Rio Rancho candidate:

U.S. Senate

  • Christopher Vanden Heuvel (Republican): Rio Rancho
  • Ben Ray Lujan (incumbent, Democrat): Santa Fe
  • Matt Dodson (Democrat): Farmington

U.S. House of Representatives, District 1

  • Ndidiamaka Ekwua Charlene Okparek (Republican): Rio Rancho
  • Melanie Stansbury (incumbent, Democrat): Albuquerque
  • Carlton Pennington (Republican):  Moriarty
  • Steve Jones (Republican): Ruidoso
  • James Ellison (Republican): Cedar Crest
  • Doug Turner (Republican): Albuquerque

Governor

  • Gregg Hull (Republican): Rio Rancho
