The city of Rio Rancho municipal election ended on March 5 with incumbent Paul Wymer retaining his seat in District 4.

Wymer was sworn in Thursday in a ceremony at City Hall ahead of the city council meeting and signed his Oath of Office to begin his second term.

Rio Rancho City Clerk Rebecca Martinez swore Wymer in with the councilor's wife, Terri, standing beside him and holding the Bible he placed his hand on in front of dozens of family, friends and fellow members of the governing body.

"I'm very excited to be re-elected and given the honor to represent my my constituents in District Four as well as the city as a whole," Wymer said. "This is quite a difference from four years ago. Four years ago, I think there might have been four people in this room; we all had masks on. We had just come into a lockdown and COVID. Here we are four years later, and it's a whole different thing. We've got all kinds of people in the room. I'm so excited to be back back in the seat that I love so much."

Later in the meeting each councilor and Mayor Gregg Hull congratulated Wymer on being re-elected.

"Paul is an amazing advocate for the city of Rio Rancho and his constituents, and I think that they're very lucky to have him," District 3 Councilor Bob Tyler said. "He does a fabulous job up here with us, and I love working with him."

After being sworn in and signing his Oath of Office, Wymer boasted about the state of the City of Vision and promised to keep the positive momentum going in his second term.

"As I went through my campaigning, I said numerous times that our city is in the best place it's ever been financially, it's in the best place it's ever been from a safety standpoint, our school district is the best, and while we don't totally control back here on the council; we are a part of it," Wymer said. "I want to keep that going. I'm glad that the voters believe the same thing, and we are going to do what we've been doing for the last four years and beyond. And we are going to keep the city in the best place it's ever been."
