Stabbing homicide suspect in custody

A juvenile has been arrested for murder in Tuesday night's stabbing death.

Joshua Xavier Mora, 17, of Rio Rancho, has been booked in the Bernalillo County Juvenile Detention Center on an open count of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence.

At 10:28 p.m. April 16, police responded to the 1700 block of Riverside Drive Northeast after the woman with multiple stab wounds was found in the area. Police and Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue provided aid, but she died from the injuries.

On Thursday, Rio Rancho Police identified the victim as Heather Nichole Lamb, 44, of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

"The Rio Rancho Police Department extends our heartfelt condolences to all those affected by this senseless tragedy. We commend the hard work and dedication of the Rio Rancho Police Department and Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue for their efforts in trying to save Ms. Lamb's life. We commend the tireless commitment of our Criminal Investigations Division, who have been working around the clock to bring resolution to this case," the police department stated in a release.
