After black smoke could be seen to the west from miles away in Rio Rancho Monday morning, Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue confirmed July 22 that an RV caught fire.

"The smoke that was seen was from an RV located west of Rio Rancho in Sandoval County that was on fire; RRFR Auto Aid responds to this part of the county," RRFR Chief James Defillippo said.

He reported that the RV was abandoned and no injuries were reported. Defillippo also noted the fire did not spread to any other structures nor the nearby brush.

"Crews worked to quickly contain and extinguish the fire," he said.
