ALBUQUERQUE — A New Mexico senator who represents Rio Rancho won an award last week from a statewide nonprofit for his legislative work on parental rights.

In a Facebook post Thursday, Sen. Jay Block, a Republican, said he was the recipient of the Freedom Champion Award from New Mexico Family Action Movement during the organization’s Legacy Dinner Dec. 3.

“Thank you NMFAM for this incredible honor. I am very grateful and I will never stop fighting against parental rights,” Block wrote.

New Mexico Reps. Rebecca Dow, Jenifer Jones, and Rod Montoya, and Sen. David Gallegos also received the award, according to a news release.

The award is “NM FAM’s highest recognition for public officials ... who have gone above and beyond to defend faith, protect families, and stand for freedom — not simply through their votes, but through the way they lead,” the release stated.
