RIO RANCHO — After months of putting off an announcement, Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull on Tuesday made it official: He is running to be governor of New Mexico.

In a nearly two-minute video in front of the Roundhouse in Santa Fe, Hull, a former businessman who has served as the City of Vision’s mayor since 2014, acknowledged why he waited to announce, stating that running for the state’s highest elected office in 2026 is “not something to take lightly.”

“It’s a tough job, a serious responsibility, and I wanted to make this decision the right way,” said Hull, a Republican.

His announcement came the same day as the release of his second campaign finance report, which shows he received $123,157.39 in contributions throughout the last six months and spent $126,850.40 during the same period.

While Hull did not discuss campaign finances in the video, he did allude to a statewide listening tour, which caused him to postpone an announcement about his intentions on June 2, a year out from the gubernatorial primary.

“What I’ve heard is clear: We all want a New Mexico that is safer, stronger and full of opportunity,” Hull said in the video.

His priorities as governor would include safer communities, better health care, stronger schools and growing the economy.

“I have a plan, and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and put words into action,” Hull said.

He asked for voters’ support, “not just for me, but for our shared priorities.”

“So join me, together. We can build the kind of future New Mexico deserves,” Hull said.

The Observer has reached out to Hull multiple times for an interview.
