Attempted murder charge against Buscema upgraded to murder

A Rio Rancho man is facing a murder charge after his son died from injuries July 8.
Vincent Buscema Sr., 59, of Rio Rancho, was arrested June 9 for attempted murder and other charges in the 1200 block of Aspen Meadows Drive.
The attempted murder charge was upgraded to first-degree murder when Buscema's son, Vincent Jr., died from his injuries almost a month after being shot.
At the time of the incident, Buscema Sr. allegedly shot his son after making threats over text message. He threatened Buscema Jr. and his wife, then shot him in the chest. Buscema Jr. was taken to a hospital almost immediately after the incident, and police arrested Buscema Sr.
According to an obituary filed with Daniel's Family, Buscema Jr. is leaving behind his wife and sons as well as his other close family.
With the charge now being first-degree murder, Buscema Sr. could face life in prison.
