THE BLOCK lights up
THE BLOCK’s huge Christmas tree sits next to the center stage.
RIO RANCHO — Hundreds gathered at THE BLOCK in Enchanted Hills to see the lighting of its huge Christmas tree Nov. 23.
“This is such a dream come true. We’ve been working on this for years — literally before COVID — and we had a dirt lot here and we just wanted to do something that would be more community focused,” TDA Investments Inc Senior Vice President of Development Amy Goldfarb said. Goldfarb is the developer and owner of THE BLOCK and Plaza Enchanted Hills.
The parking lots were full to brim, and some even parked by the nearby Albertsons.
People dressed in warm clothing, and huddled together to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season.
“This morning, I happened to be look to see what was happening, and saw that they were having a tree lighting, and I was like ‘we have to go!’” attendee Kelly Weber said.
Weber- who has lived in Rio Rancho for two years- attended the event with her husband and kids.
Festivities started at 4 p.m. with face painting, Santa Claus showed up at 6 p.m., and the tree was filled with beaming lights at 7 p.m.
“We wanted THE BLOCK to be apart of the community, and be a magnet for people to come to,” THE BLOCK General Manager Dominic Garcia said.
Santa Fe band Una Mas y La ChaCha was on the main stage, playing jams for three hours.
As 7 p.m. approached, Santa Claus appeared, and lead a countdown. A round of applause and cheer filled the space as the tree lit up the night sky.
“Merry Christmas, and have a joyous year. We are celebrating today at THE BLOCK, and it is a wonderful time!” Santa Claus said. Claus is known to deliver presents on Christmas Eve.
