Rio Rancho celebrates Winterfest
RIO RANCHO — The city of Rio Rancho hosted its annual Winterfest at City Center with a parade, a visit from Santa Claus, a tree lighting ceremony and fireworks.
“It was fun. We showed up late, but it was a lot of fun,” Landon Todd said. Todd was there with his girlfriend, Danity Diaz, who said, “It was a great parade and the perfect time to take some pictures and create memories.”
The festivities kicked off around 5 p.m., when Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus stopped by Rio Rancho City Hall for a visit.
Many families waited in line for the opportunity to meet Santa, and take some pictures with Father Christmas himself.
Due to some nearby construction, food trucks were not on site. However, attendees still received free hot chocolate from a stand that was operated by city employees.
Then, came the holiday parade that featured illuminated cars, lowriders, the Grinch, and ;the Cleveland Storm Regiment marching band, just to name a few.
“Seeing the Joe Harris cheer squad was my favorite part of the parade,” Abigail Lockemer said, who attended the event with her dad and best friend Isabella “Bella” Chapman.
“This time of year, there is nothing better than spending time with family and opening presents,” an eager Chapman said.
As 7 p.m. approached, the giant Christmas tree outside of City Hall was lit, and a fireworks show concluded the festive night.
