ALBUQUERQUE- Lovelace Westside Hospital hosted a radiology open house on Dec. 5 to debut some new improvements made to the wing which includes a new MRI machine that will benefit tons of people on the Westside.

“Prior to having this piece of technology here on campus we had to send patients in an ambulance to an outpatient building to have this testing done,” Chief Executive Officer Amy Blasing said.

Many hospital workers and leaders attended the open house to celebrate the new improvements with drinks, appetizers, and a tour of the radiology wing.

“Lovelace Westside Hospital is very excited to be opening this new MRI which is magnet technology which allows us to do high diagnostic imaging for patients that have emergencies or that need to have evaluations for medical conditions,” Blasing said.

The MAGNETOM Sola with BioMatrix MRI machine can accommodate a variety of patient types with a 70 cm bore, and a table that lowers to 52 cm and supports up to 550 pounds.

The MAGNETOM Sola can capture a field of view up to 50 centimeters by 50 centimeters by 50 centimeters and has a new 1.5-times magnet design that sites in less than 28 meters squared.

Some of its other many features include BioMatrix Sensors which eliminate patient exclusion, BioMatrix Tuners which reduce rescans, and BioMatrix Interfaces which minimize time consuming set-ups.

“This not only brings it inside of our hospital but it is state-of-the-art equipment, and it’s actually the first of its kind in Albuquerque. It can accommodate up to a 550 pound weight limit so for bariatric patients they can get studies done here that other hospitals might not be able to perform,” Blasing said.
