That’s My Rez Sandwiches is located at THE BLOCK: 7805 Enchanted Hills Blvd. NE, Rio Rancho

The Pueblo Deli sandwich was $8, and if you get a drink and chips, $11.

THE BLOCK is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday. From Wednesday to Saturday, they are open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

“Have a car!” they said. “It makes life so much easier.” Scoff.

Well, when I bought my car from CarMax, they sold me on getting MaxCare, which would cover repair costs, and they would get me a rental car while it’s being repaired. I paid thousands more to get MaxCare.

Sweet deal, right? Well, what they don’t tell you is that you don’t get a rental until their own inspector looks at the car. The only problem is, this inspector apparently travels by horse and has taken several business days to check my car, and I have had to pay out of pocket for a rental car.

It’s been a week, and while I was fuming, I began my voyage for a nice sandwich that would put me back in cheerful spirits.

So, I headed to THE BLOCK, and boy, did I find a gem.

This place is called “That’s My Rez Sandwiches,” a local sandwich shop that brings a “rez” flare to deli meats and bread.

“I bring the color and the imagination to the kitchen,” Executive Chef Isaiah Martinez said, who is also the co-owner with his brother-in-law, Richard Devore.

Items on the menu included signature sandwiches like the Mesa Turkey Club, the 505 Fire Stack and the Cedar Caesar Sandwich.

“I’m making sure that the sauces, all the mayo, mustard all the ingredients are New Mexico-inspired,” Martinez said.

While I was taking a gander at the menu, two things were on my mind No. 1. I am paying a lot of money out of pocket for something CarMax’s MaxCare should be covering. No. 2. The Pueblo Deli sandwich.

The Pueblo Deli is one their most popular sandwiches. The Pueblo Deli sandwich has black forest ham, smoked turkey, bologna, green chile, lettuce, tomato, mild cheddar cheese, mayo and mustard.

“These are the sandwiches that I grew up on,” Martinez said.

As you can probably guess, that’s the sandwich I ordered, and I got that with purple Kool-Aid and garden salsa Sun Chips.

The sandwich came out, and it was heavenly. Stacked to the brim with delicious deli meats, this thing was a work of art. I mean this in the best way: This sandwich reminds you of a cartoon sandwich from “Tom & Jerry.”

The deli meats were savory, and the other toppings were fresh and well-balanced. I don’t know what kind of bread they used, but that stuff was incredibly satisfying.

With every bite, you got a massive range of flavors, and the kick from the green chile made this sandwich hit the spot. I finished this bad boy in the span of five minutes, and I washed it all down with cold Kool-Aid.

Now, this sandwich was crafted with love, and it is the perfect thing to eat after swimming or when you need a lunch break from the office. What I like the most about this place is it’s simple and just tries to remind you of the good times.

I will for sure return to That’s My Rez Sandwiches to try more of their signature creations.
