NM Dems: Putting politics over New Mexicans

New Mexico’s Democrat "leadership" continues to disappoint. True leadership is about recognizing the challenges which New Mexicans most need us to tackle on their behalf. But despite full control of every statewide office in the legislative, executive and judicial branches of state government, as well as with all five seats in our federal delegation, Democrats routinely prioritize issues which don’t even come close to addressing the real challenges facing New Mexico.

If they were capable of leading, they would do something about the issues that truly impact you and your family’s lives. But instead of creating safer communities, improving our children’s educational outcomes, building economic opportunities for growth, and making life less expensive for hard-working families, New Mexico’s progressive Democrats care more about giving the middle finger to President Donald J. Trump.

That’s right, despite their immense amount of power and influence, their top priority is virtue-signaling to their radical base with petty and inconsequential political stunts. It’s sad but it’s true. For example, are my Democrat colleagues in the state Senate joining me to keep violent offenders from being released back onto the streets? No, they’re focusing their energy on banning local entities from cooperating with federal immigration authorities. They’d rather stick it to ICE and to President Trump than rid our state of predators like Mahmoud Telfah, a criminal illegal alien who is suspected of sexually exploiting a minor in Albuquerque.

Are Democrat senators supporting efforts to fix medical malpractice so that we turn around our state’s loss of doctors? No, they’ve actually fought to protect the ability of their trial lawyer buddies to file claim after claim, even though each lawsuit drives more doctors away and robs everyday New Mexicans of access to available health care.

When I ran to represent Senate District 12, I did so because I felt that our great state could do so much better and that I could contribute to our state changing for the better. Little did I know, many of my colleagues on the other side of the aisle do not view public service in this constructive manner. Which is why, if you think about it, New Mexico is known for being the most dangerous, least-educated state with the highest percentage of its citizens dependent on social welfare programs. When your elected leaders do not serve the needs of the public, our state winds up — again — on the bottom of every national list.

But we have the potential to be so much more … Our state boasts amazing people, beautiful cultures, rich history, brilliant minds and abundant natural resources. It simply requires leaders who are more committed to public service than to political theater.

My fellow Republicans and I are committed to serving you, to addressing your needs and those facing our state. We promise to never give up and to never put politics above people. Just as Albert Einstein warned, we can’t “keep doing the same things over and over while expecting different results.” It’s time for new leadership.
