Santo Domingo Pueblo issuing tribal IDs amid 'ICE sweeps'

Published

SANTO DOMINGO PUEBLO — Santo Domingo Pueblo Census is issuing tribal IDs to its members amid Immigration and Customs Enforcement presence in New Mexico.

In a letter posted March 3 on the Pueblo's Facebook, Gov. Raymond Aguilar Jr. and Lt. Gov. Ivan Garcia give members advice about what to do in an ICE encounter.

“The 2026 Tribal Administration is aware of ICE conducting sweeps in New Mexico. If you are encountered by an ICE agent, please remember to stay calm and composed. Always carry your tribal identification card and your drivers license or state identification card. If you have any concerns or need support, please contact the tribal officials on duty at (505) 225-5129 or (505) 225-5139. We are here to help and ensure your safety,” it reads.

Additionally, the census will issue IDs free of charge to enrolled tribal members from March 3 to May 28.

"Please bring your birth certificate, social security card, and/or marriage certificate," it reads.

Those wanting the ID can get one Monday through Wednesday and are encouraged to schedule an appointment by calling 505-585-0116.
