As a candidate for Ciudad Soil and Water Conservation District supervisor, I bring over 40 years of ranching experience, managing a 380-acre operation with sustainable practices like terracing, soil testing and watershed projects. As a 2005 OSU Master Cattleman, I honed conservation expertise adaptable to our urban district. My 30 years as a nurse and 20 years as a family nurse practitioner (Master’s in nursing, 2005) taught me that soil and water are bedrocks of human health. A healthy environment is vital for our community’s well-being.

My platform prioritizes water security, soil health and education. Water scarcity demands innovative solutions like urban stormwater capture, efficient irrigation and reclamation of public and corporate water to recharge aquifers. Soil erosion, worsened by urban growth and wildfires, requires eco-friendly infrastructure like bioswales to manage runoff and protect the Santa Fe Aquifer. I’ll advocate for forest management in the Sandias and bosque to reduce wildfire risks, collaborating with partners.

With experience as a staff accountant and office manager, I’ll ensure fiscal accountability for the district’s mill levy. My community education experience drives my commitment to outreach, promoting Ciudad SWCD’s website so people are informed on project updates, expanding school programs, and using social media for success stories. Continued support of workshops and town halls will engage residents and youth in sustainable stewardship.

My nursing background underscores the link between environmental and human health. My conservation experience and financial acumen will ensure responsible resource management for Bernalillo, southwest Sandoval and a small section Santa Fe counties. I’ll promote sustainable water distribution for residential and agricultural needs, balancing ecological demands as well reviewing the increasing demands for manufacturing demands. Vote for me to build a resilient, healthy future. “Remember Ramona” on November 4.
