Woman struck by vehicle while attempting to rescue dog

RIO RANCHO — A woman is in stable condition after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to rescue a dog that had also been hit.

The Rio Rancho Police Department confirmed the night of Nov. 21 she sustained serious injuries when she was struck. The accident resulted in southbound NM 528 being closed, according to a social media post around 7 p.m., though it has since reopened.

No information has been provided on the condition of the dog, and the accident remains under investigation.
