Sen. Heinrich Tours Santa Fe Community College

U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) spent Jan. 5 touring the Trades and Advanced Technology Center at Santa Fe Community College and discussing how the Inflation Reduction Act is creating new careers New Mexicans can build their families around, lowering home appliance costs for families, making homes healthier and advancing the transition to a clean energy future.

“I fought hard to pass the Inflation Reduction Act because I knew it would have a transformative impact on our climate, economy and New Mexico families. Today on my visit, I got to saw one of the ways this landmark law is delivering a stronger future for New Mexicans,” Heinrich said. “I’m especially pleased that the Inflation Reduction Act included my home electrification rebate program, which is now spurring an increased demand for home energy auditors — a career that New Mexicans can train for at Santa Fe Community College.”

Heinrich, the co-founder and co-chair of the Electrification Caucus, fought aggressively to pass the Inflation Reduction Act, helping to secure major provisions, including a new rebate program that mirrors his Zero-Emission Homes Act. The program will be delivering $87 million to New Mexico to help low- and moderate-income households receive up to $14,000 in savings when they upgrade their appliances and weatherize their homes. This program is leading to an increased demand for home energy auditors, which the Santa Fe Community College now offers training for.

“I’m grateful for Santa Fe Community College’s work helping to grow our economy by preparing New Mexicans for the HVAC careers they can build a family around,” Heinrich said. “I’ll continue fighting to make sure that every person in our state can access the opportunities created by the Inflation Reduction Act.”
