SCSO warns of scammers impersonating deputies
SANDOVAL COUNTY — Police impersonators are back at it in Sandoval County.
“Scammers are impersonating Law Enforcement Officers!” a March 4 social media post states.
The public is instructed not to engage with anyone over the phone, by text or by email who claims to be a law enforcement officer and is asking for personal information or funds.
Payments via ATM deposits, gift cards, wire transfers, prepaid debit cards, cryptocurrency, etc. might be requested by the scammers.
“Scammers spoof phone numbers and email addresses to appear legitimate. NO LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER will ask you for money!” the post states.
People who have been contacted about a warrant, bond or other matter are encouraged to report it to local law enforcement.
