SCSO requests community help in shot dog case

RIO RANCHO — The Sandoval County Sheriff's Office is requesting the community's help in finding a person who allegedly shot a dog.

"On November 29, 2025, at approximately 5:37 P.M. deputies with the Sandoval County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the area of 28th Avenue NW in Rio Rancho regarding a reported shooting involving a dog," the department posted on social media Dec 15.

Preliminary information indicates a red Jeep with large tires was seen in the area, according to the post.

"The vehicle was reportedly occupied by a white male with brown hair who was driving, along with a female passenger. A person walking a dog reported the male driver discharged a firearm at the dog, striking the animal," it reads.

This incident remains under investigation.
