Sandoval County Sheriff's Office awards standout employees
Sandoval County Commissioners join Sheriff's Office employees after the Sheriff's Office awarded several employees at the April 10 County Commission meeting.
The Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office recognized 16 individuals with an awards presentation at the April 10 Sandoval County Commission meeting.
Sheriff Jesse James Casaus kicked off the presentation by thanking all the employees at the sheriff’s office.
“The sheriff's office honors their employees for their outstanding and distinguished service to the citizens of Sandoval County,” Casaus said. “There are many scenarios and difficulties that have been overcome by all employees who also held the line on crime. Crime rates across the board here in Sandoval County have dropped generally compared to previous years, and I truly believe this is because of the excellent work and professional service provided by the Sandoval County Sheriff's employees.”
The first award went to AJ Noriega, who was named 2023 Deputy of the Year. Noriega was not on hand to accept the award because he was out of town training, but Casaus praised Noriega as a standout deputy.
“In nominating him for this award, his peers cited him as a team player who is knowledgeable in police tactics that he frequently shares. He is adaptable and can quickly take charge of any situation. And he always goes above and beyond for both his fellow deputies and the citizens of Sandoval County,” Casaus said. “This award is to commend and to remind everyone that his actions do not go unnoticed. Deputy Noriega’s persistence, self-motivation and commitment are an example of his outstanding dedication and devotion to the safety and welfare of the citizens of Sandoval County.”
Lt. John Castañeda took over for Casaus and presented the rest of the awards, including the Life-Saving Award to Sgt. Rene Alvarado.
“Sergeant Alvarado’s quick thinking was instrumental in preserving the life of a female child who was choking,” Castañeda said. “He performed the Heimlich maneuver, gave back blows and dislodged the food.”
