Sandoval County Sheriff Jesse James Casaus and Chief Deputy Allen Mills presented Sandoval County Sheriff’s Meritorious Service Award to Sandoval County Sheriff Detective Sgt. Olga Guymon at the Feb. 28 Sandoval County Commission meeting.
The award is the highest honor a sheriff sergeant can receive, and Mills was beaming with pride as he talked about Guymon’s work with Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office.
“Olga and I have worked hand-in-hand for the last 14 years,” Mills said. “I have worked with 70 to 80 detectives over the last 40 years, and Olga is one of the best I’ve ever worked with.”
Mills praised Guymon for being a “heavy-lifting detective” and said she has all the attributes that make a great detective.
“She’s self-motivated, she has integrity, she’s trustworthy, she’s consistent, she has self-discipline,” Mills said. “Most of all, she knows results matter more than time. She leaves no stone unturned and basically, there are no questions when she turns in a report. They take a week to read, but no stone is unturned. She is going to be impossible to replace. Olga is one of those that this county will never see again for years.”
Guymon, who is retiring, received a standing ovation from the large crowd in the commission chambers as Casaus presented her with the award.
“We’re going to miss her a bunch,” Casaus said. “We’re going to have to replace her, but it’s going to be tough to replace her with someone as good as Olga has been.”
