RIO RANCHO — The Rio Rancho Police Department knows how to party when it comes to giving toys to local kids for Christmas.

And oh what a party it was Dec. 13 at Cleveland High School for the annual RRPD Christmas Festival.

"The Rio Rancho Police Department was honored to bring families together to celebrate the holiday season this year with the annual Christmas Festival. The event provided families an opportunity to connect with officers outside of daily calls for service, fostering positive relationships and strengthening our community," RRPD stated.

Dozens of officers, sporting Santa hats and reindeer antlers, were outnumbered in a good way that day.

Hundreds of elementary-aged kids filled the school cafeteria, each receiving a toy. There were fun activities to keep them happy as well.

Activities included a holiday picture booth, a petting zoo, famous cars, cornhole, limbo, lawn darts and a raffle. RRPD also had displays from the SWAT, traffic and K-9 units.

Later on, the kids got a special visit from the Grinch, his dog Max and the big man himself, Santa.

The event was put on by RRPD, students from the high schools and other volunteers. Different members of Miss New Mexico of various age classes were also present.

"The Rio Rancho Police Department extends its sincere appreciation to community partners, volunteers and sponsors whose generosity and support helped make the event possible. Their contributions were vital in ensuring a meaningful and memorable event for the community," RRPD said.
