RRFR announces 2025 department awards
Winners receive plaques
RIO RANCHO — Five Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue members were celebrated for their achievements recently.
Chief James Wenzel stated Dec. 9 that members whose dedication, professionalism and service exemplify the highest standards of the fire service are recognized for those efforts every year.
This year's winners are Capt. Kirk Rickett for fire officer of the year, Capt. Jason DeBerg for administrator of the year, Engineer Michael Muniz for engineer of the year, Fire Medic Desire Lucero for EMS provider of the year and firefighter Cody Eichen for firefighter of the year.
"Each year, the department recognizes exceptional members. Our “Of the Year” awards highlight individuals who consistently go above and beyond in their roles, demonstrate outstanding leadership, and make meaningful contributions to the community and the organization," Wenzel said.
He added that the honors celebrate excellence in areas such as firefighter performance, officer leadership, emergency medical service, administrative support and overall impact on department values and mission.
"Recipients serve as role models, inspiring others through their commitment to safety, service, integrity and continuous improvement," he said.
The winners were presented with commemorative plaques in a recent ceremony.
