Rio Rancho businesswoman announces run for state Senate
Susana Vasquez
Local businesswoman Susana Vasquez recently announced her intention to run as a Republican for New Mexico Senate in District 9.
District 9 will see a new face for the 2025 session as incumbent Sen. Brenda McKenna announced she would not seek re-election.
Vasquez owns Pet Food Gone Wild in Rio Rancho. She started the business more than 13 years ago and has seen much growth and success throughout the years.
Originally from Chicago, Vasquez moved to New Mexico 14 years ago because she loved the state and its beautiful weather. Vasquez studied biological sciences at Benedictine University.
Vasquez says she has been humbled by the support her business has received from this community, especially during COVID. Because of that support, she was able to survive that difficult time.
“I want to work for you. We need to create more well-paying jobs, improve our schools and make public safety a top priority in New Mexico,” Vasquez said. “I am here for you and willing to work hard to help make the changes needed for the betterment of our people of New Mexico.”
Senate District 9 encompasses Albuquerque’s West Side, Corrales, Placitas, Bernalillo, Algodones, Sandia Pueblo and eastern Rio Rancho.
