Report details arrest of trio who stole in 11 states
Men targeted Walmart stores
RIO RANCHO — More details have been released about the trio arrested for thefts in 11 states recently.
Alexander Peredes, 25, of Nevada, Deshawn Jaynes, 25, of Michigan and Marc Smith, 32, of Michigan, were arrested Dec. 10 for organized retail crime at Walmart on Unser Boulevard.
Last week, Rio Rancho Police Department confirmed the three were involved in 30 incidents from mid-November to mid-December. They allegedly attempted or completed thefts at Walmart locations in New Mexico, Colorado, California, Iowa, West Virginia, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Kansas, Minnesota, and Nevada.
According to RRPD, investigators for Walmart were alerted to the trio’s activity in New Mexico and contacted the police department's investigations division to inform them that the suspects may visit the Rio Rancho Walmart.
RRPD stated they found the three suspects at the Walmart, where they were arrested and charged. Court records state the three were posing as delivery drivers to steal orders.
Criminal complaints released Dec. 22 as part of an IPRA request for arrest records detail more of how the trio were arrested.
The complaints state Jaynes entered the Walmart store through the front doors.
Once inside, he proceeded to the electronics counter. There, he introduced himself to the associates as a SPARK delivery driver and told them he was there to pick up items for an order. He asked for two Apple iPads and two Apple watches, the complaint states.
He began showing the associates images on his cellular phone indicating that the items were part of an order. The associates observed the images on his phone and determined that this was not a legitimate order.
Associates had already been alerted that Jaynes or the other two men would show up, according to the complaints. RRPD was alerted as well and arrived while Jaynes was in the store.
As authorities pulled up to the Walmart, they found a car with a temporary paper license plate and lit their lights behind it.
Smith and Parades were detained when they got out of the vehicle. At the same time, Jaynes attempted leaving the store but was detained out front.
The total value of merchandise stolen from four separate Walmart locations in New Mexico was approximately $7,700, RRPD stated.
People charged with organized retail crime can face up to nine years in prison.
