RIO RANCHO — The Rio Rancho Police Department believes a person found dead in a Tuesday morning house fire committed suicide.

In a Jan. 29 email, the RRPD public information officer stated the person died from a self-inflicted injury not related to the fire.

A cause for the fire, which occurred on Clark Hills Drive Jan. 27, has not been shared at this time.

"At this time, the official cause of death has not yet been determined by the Office of the Medical Investigator. No suspicious circumstances were noted during the police investigation," the PIO stated.

Information will be shared as it becomes available.

While the Observer does not usually report on suicides, the elevated attention to this incident required coverage.
