PLACITAS — The Placitas Community Library is marking the 80th anniversary of the Trinity atomic explosion throughout July.

The observance includes a screening of the first half of “The Bomb!” a PBS documentary, at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 13. This half of the documentary shows the leadup to the Trinity explosion, which occurred July 16, 1945. The screening will be followed by a discussion on the current implications of nuclear weaponry. The second half of the film will be screened later. The library also encourages attendees to share memories of “duck and cover” and other artifacts of the Cold War.

The library will also display photos, books and documents detailing the history of the Trinity event.
