One hospitalized in King Blvd structure fire
Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue members watch a helicopter depart from King Meadows Park after responding to a structure fire west of the intersection of King and Rainbow boulevards Friday night.
RIO RANCHO — A late-night structure fire was confirmed near Northern Meadows Nov. 21.
Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue confirmed one person was hospitalized from a Friday night structure fire on county land west of the intersection of King and Rainbow boulevards.
“Crews responded to the area of King and Rainbow for a confirmed structure fire located in Sandoval County,” RRFR Chief James Wenzel said.
One patient was flown to University of New Mexico Hospital for burn injuries.
The owner advised the home had propane and large amounts of black powder inside, which prevented crews from making an interior fire attack, Wenzel stated.
“Crews monitored for exposures and possible spot fires and have just turned the scene over to (Sandoval County Fire and Rescue),” he added.
The investigation for cause will be completed by Sandoval County Fire and Rescue and State Fire Marshals Office.
On Nov. 22, SCFR stated they responded to 32nd Street near the intersection, adding that RRFR arrived first on the scene, assumed command, provided medical care and hospital transport to a patient, and monitored the scene to ensure the fire remained limited to the area of origin.
SCFR ultimately extinguished the fire. A cause has not yet been established.
More information will be added as it becomes available.
