NWS warns cold temps this week

The National Weather Service warns very cold wind chills as low as 9 below are expected tonight into tomorrow morning in Rio Rancho.

"The cold wind chills as low as 10 below zero could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken," it reads in an alert.

It advises caution while traveling.

"Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside," it reads.

Rio Rancho Weather Outlook:

Tonight Mostly clear, with a low around 12. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday Sunny, with a high near 44. West wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon.

Wednesday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 14. North wind 5 to 15 mph.

Thursday Sunny, with a high near 37. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon.

Thursday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 13. West wind around 5 mph.

Friday Sunny, with a high near 43.

Friday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 21.
