RIO RANCHO — The Rio Rancho Astronomical Society will host a comet discoverer at its regular monthly meeting July 25 at Rainbow Park Observatory behind Rainbow Pool.

Over Zoom, Dr. Alan Hale, co-discoverer of Comet Hale-Bopp, which appeared in July 1995, will discuss his discovery of the “Comet of the Century” that was last seen during the Bronze Age and won’t return until the year 4385 AD, according to a release.

In addition, senior students will present their NASA Universe of Learning projects.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Telescopes will be available for public stargazing after the meeting, weather permitting.
