Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull released his annual State of the City report Oct. 26 via YouTube video.

Some of the key points he covered were what has been accomplished recently, what is underway and what is in store for the future.

“It’s an exciting time to be a Rio Rancho community member, and that doesn’t go unnoticed. Rio Rancho has been recognized by livability.com as one of the 100 best places to live in the U.S. and the 10th best in the Southwest. That recognition is due in part to many new community-enriching amenities with many more in the planning stages,” Hull said.

He highlighted the work done in Enchanted Hills to get The Hub up and running.

“We’re excited about this new dual-purpose facility. The Hub in Enchanted Hills is designed to enhance community, lifestyle and quality of life,” he added.

The planned plaza called “The Block,” Hull says, will be an investment that enhances the community.

“This indoor-outdoor retail and event space, fashioned from repurposed shipping containers, will feature an eclectic mix of shops, eateries and entertainment,” he said.

Hull admitted there is work to be done when it comes to major roadways and neighborhood streets.

“Over the past several years, 36 major road projects have been completed and more than 110 miles of neighborhood streets have been improved. In the coming year, 26 miles of neighborhood streets will be improved and major projects on Enchanted Hills Boulevard, Quantum Road, Laser Road, Vortex Road and Northern Boulevard will all get underway,” Hull states.

Hull was also proud that public safety is now abundantly available in Rio Rancho and increasing with need.

“Thanks to prioritization based on demand and need, this fire station located in the Mariposa subdivision has been remodeled and reopened with new vehicles, new equipment and new positions. The same is true for the police department; new positions, equipment and vehicles have all been added to help keep up the pace with our growing community,” he added.

Hull says the city will continue to provide quality of life and community engagement through a variety of family-friendly events.

“Campus Park has become the prime venue for a majority of these community events with phase two planned for the coming year. Phase two will bring a number of new amenities to Campus Park, including multi-purpose spaces, trails, shade structures, dedicated vendor space and sidewalks,” he added.

Hull also announced a phase two of the Broadmoor Senior Center will get underway 2024.

“This new phase will add a multi-purpose room, storage, parking and outdoor recreational space,” he said.

A priority for Hull is also maintaining the city’s facilities, including the Loma Colorado Main Library and the Aquatic Center.

More recently, the city has taken on a LED conversion project for street lights around town.

Hull says he looks forward to continuing to serve Rio Rancho; the next mayoral election is in 2026.

The YouTube video of his report can be viewed on the city’s website or on its YouTube.

Per the city’s charter, the mayor of Rio Rancho is required to provide the city council with a State of the City report each year.
