According to U.S. Department of Labor, Labor Day is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers. The holiday is rooted in the late nineteenth century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being.
Here's what's closed locally:
City of Rio Rancho offices and facilities will be closed Sept. 2 in observance of Labor Day. This includes city hall, libraries, community centers and pools. However, Haynes Pool will be open from noon to 6 p.m. Corrales and Bernalillo offices and facilities will also be closed for the holiday.
Emergency and public safety services will operate without interruption.
In addition to local government offices, Rio Rancho, Corrales and Bernalillo Public Schools will be closed. Local Waste Management collection will be pushed back one day since Labor Day falls on a Monday. USPS will not operate either. Banks locally will close for the holiday, but ATMs will still be available for use.
The Rio Rancho Observer will be closed that day as well. The paper will deliver as normal Sept. 5.
