JEMEZ SPRINGS — Youth and elders from the Pueblo of Jemez are teaming up later this month to offer tours of the Jemez Historic Site.
The "Elders in Residence" program, featuring students from Walatowa High Charter School in Jemez Pueblo, will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays, Aug. 6-17, according to a news release.
Wendi Laws, regional manager of the historic site, said in a prepared statement that she and her team are "honored" to host elders from the pueblo this summer.
“Jemez Historic Site is honored to host elders from the Pueblo of Jemez this summer. This gives the public an opportunity to hear about the stories and importance of the site directly from the people to whom it ancestrally belongs,” Laws said.
Admission is $7 for adults and free for children ages 16 and younger, the release said. Other groups, including Native Americans, disabled veterans and foster families, get in free. Members of the Museum of New Mexico Foundation and Friends of Coronado and Jemez Historic Sites are also guaranteed free admission.
