Jemez Historic Site hosting Natural History Museum talk on NASA mission

JEMEZ SPRINGS — The Jemez Historic Site will host a program about NASA's PUNCH (Polarimeter to Unify the Corona and Heliosphere) mission from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 8-11 p.m. Sept. 20 .

Jim Greenhouse, from the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science in Albuquerque, will share images and discuss details of the NASA PUNCH mission during the “Looking to the Skies: Modern and Ancient Astronomers” program. Visitors will get a chance to view the sun using a solar telescope. At 8 p.m., attendees can spend an evening under the stars with Greenhouse, as well as with The Albuquerque Astronomical Society for “Stargazing at Gisewa.”

Greenhouse will give a presentation in the museum about the stars and other celestial objects while TAAS volunteers will be set up throughout the site with telescopes for nighttime sky viewing.

Pueblo food and art vendors will be selling their goods at the event.

Both programs are free to children 16 years and younger, people with Native/Tribal affiliations, New Mexico disabled veterans, New Mexico foster families, Friends of Coronado & Jemez members, and MNMF members.
