Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull issued a news release with the latest developments, stating he'll continue to collect more signatures
Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull announces his campaign for governor from the Roundhouse in Santa Fe.
RIO RANCHO — Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull has garnered enough signatures from supporters to appear on the ballot for next year's gubernatorial primary, his campaign said Monday.
Hull, who officially announced his bid for the state's highest office in October, issued a news release calling the developments regarding his nominating petition "an important step for our campaign" that were complete well ahead of the Feb. 3 candidate filing date. The primary is scheduled for June 2.
“I’m grateful to every New Mexican who signed our petition or helped us collect signatures. This early support shows that people want leadership that listens, works hard, and delivers results," Hull said in the release.
He did not disclose the number of signatures on his petition, but the New Mexico Secretary of State's Office's guidelines say the minimum is 2,351 for Republican candidates.
SOS spokesperson Alex Curtas wrote in an email that his office has not received any candidate’s nominating petitions at this point. Hull's declared Republican challengers include New Mexico Sen. Steve Lanier as well as cannabis CEO and former cabinet secretary Duke Rodriguez.
Hull's latest announcement comes a little over two months after Hull said he would not seek a fourth term as mayor in 2026 in favor of running for governor.
