House Bill 7 a big topic at Sandoval County Commission meeting

House Bill 7, also known as the “Reproductive and Gender-Affirming Health Care Freedom Act,” was a hot topic at Wednesday’s Sandoval County Commission meeting.
District 2 Commissioner Jay Block and Commission Chairman Dave Heil each spoke about the bill, which passed in the state House late Tuesday. HB7 would prohibit cities and public schools in New Mexico from interfering with a person’s access to abortion or gender-affirming care. The proposal won approval on an 38-31 to vote. Six Democrats joined all 25 Republicans against the bill.
“Six Democrats had the courage to vote no on this bill that basically means for you parents, you moms and dads with minor children, you no longer have parental rights when it comes to your minor children, because now they can go and get puberty blockers, they can go get abortions, they can go get mutilated for trans surgery in the state of New Mexico,” Block said. “That’s where we’re at now. Mommy and Daddy are now the state of New Mexico. So I see this young baby right here, you’re no longer going to have control over your son because of the evil that happened last night up at the Roundhouse. It was disgusting.”
The legislation covers public bodies, including cities, counties, school districts and public universities. They would be prohibited from discriminating against anyone for using — or refusing to use — reproductive health care or gender-affirming care.
“How can we let our children get manipulated and mutilated?” Heil said. “This will be the question of future generations when they look back at the actions of the New Mexico Legislature in 2023. When they pass legislation that encourages the doling out of puberty blockers hormones like they were candy, and in some cases removing functional body parts and doing so to the exclusion of parental guidance. How little young people who’ve been misled by groomers understood the profound impacts of attempting to change their gender would have on their lives on their bodies and their minds. While the groomers downplay the negative consequences and emphasize the need for gender transition, when what they may really have needed was guidance to deal with personal confidence issues typical among many young people, and that guidance coming from parents while other states are taking steps to prevent such defiling of children. New Mexico is running headlong into the abyss of children manipulation and mutilation. The trans issue is coming on strong and other states and other places in the country, they are taking steps to prevent such actions. Yet we here in New Mexico think it’s a great idea to not have parental involvement in the rearing of their children.”
House Bill 7 now moves on to the Senate, where Block hopes to see the bill fail.
“I hope everyone passes that along because a lot of the public, Joe Bag of Doughnuts out there, doesn’t really understand, doesn’t have time to ever see what’s going on in the Roundhouse. So what they just did is pure evil. And I hope you look up that bill and look at the voting record yesterday, you call your state senator to get that killed in the committee because that has huge implications for the children of this state and the children of this country. For them to take away parental rights is just disgusting.”
