After weeks of hinting that a special session was nigh, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced Wednesday she would be calling legislators back this summer. This is the fifth special session that Lujan Grisham has called during her tenure.
Public safety will be the legislation du jour, after the governor expressed disappointment that some of her priorities stalled in the 30-day session.
“While we made some progress toward a safer New Mexico during the 30-day session, we agree that we must do more,” Lujan Grisham said in a statement. “The special session in July will enable us to deliver additional statutory changes that reduce the danger and risk New Mexico communities face every day.”
The special session will start July 18. In a press release, the governor said she anticipates it will last several days.
