Gilman tunnels to close for rock stabilization

Published Modified

JEMEZ — The Gilman Tunnels in Jemez will be closed for rock stabilization Dec. 1-2.

“Access to the Gilman Tunnels via Forest Road 376 will be prohibited for both motorized and non-motorized traffic on December 1 and 2 to conduct critical rock stabilization work. For public safety and to allow crews to complete their work on time, the public is asked to avoid the area during the closure period,” a release states.

This stabilization work involves eliminating the immediate rock fall danger as well as stabilizing the rock cliffs surrounding the tunnels, according to the release.
