Four Rio Rancho teens charged in ABQ murder
ALBUQUERQUE — Five teens, four of them from Rio Rancho, are facing several charges, including murder, stemming from a June 10 incident in which Marlene Gutierrez was killed during an attempted robbery.
Terrance Morris, 17; Ean Spencer, 16; Jeffrey Moore, 16; and Victoria Belmudez-Candelaria, 16, were arrested this week, according to a release from the Albuquerque Police Department sent to the Observer Friday. The fifth teen, Gazelle Dudley, 17, is still wanted. All but Moore are from Rio Rancho, an APD spokesperson confirmed.
The release says the the teens were reportedly cruising around Albuquerque in the early morning of June 10. Three of them decided to rob homeless people for gas money, according to a witness.
They stopped the vehicle in an alley south of the 9200 block of Central Avenue NE when Morris and Spencer, armed with handgun, approached people in the alley and demanded money, the release says.
APD says that during the attempted robbery, someone exited a travel trailer nearby and fired gunshots at Morris and Spencer. They returned gunfire and retreated; Morris then went back and fired two rounds before the group of teens fled in their vehicle.
Gutierrez, 35, was struck by a bullet during the exchange of gunfire.
The teens face counts of murder, attempt to commit a felony (to) wit armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy (to) wit armed robbery, tampering with evidence and unlawful possession of a handgun, APD stated.
