Early voting off to slow start in county

Published Modified

BERNALILLO — In contrast to the general election in 2024, when the turnout of voters was greater, this year’s general local election has been slow in Sandoval County.

Early voting started Oct. 7 at the county clerk’s office, and lines have been nonexistent. County clerk Ann Brady-Romero encouraged citizens to get out and vote at the Oct. 8 regular commission meeting.

“It’s been a little slow, so please tell everyone to get out and vote,” she said.

All 20 locations in the county will be open for early voting from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 18 to Nov. 1.

Same-day registration is available at the county clerk’s office beginning 28 days prior to an election, as well as all early voting sites within the county. The voter must have a Sandoval County residential address in order to register. “Be prepared to show a picture ID, as well as proof of residency such as a utility statement, bank statement, etc.,” the website states.

For early voting information, visit the Sandoval County Bureau of Elections website. Residents can locate the closest voting site via an interactive map. There is also a downloadable map.

“Exercise your right to vote,” Brady-Romero said.
